How to: hydrate moisture-hungry eyes

Working in magazine publishing it might aswell be the festive season for me already, brain full of Christmas puns and winter techniques I tend to get confused around this time of year and often find myself surprised at the golden appearance of the leaves that scream out it’s still autumn. However, the clocks went back today so it can no longer be ignored – winter is on its way! If – like me – you struggle to peel your peepers open in the morning, afraid to open the curtains to the dark day (even with the extra hour in bed!) then you might benefit from a little extra moisture!

The balance in your skin changes with the seasons and what works for you through the summer may not have the same effects in the cooler months. When the wind starts lashing at my face my skin tends to become a little more sensitive and prone to dryness where I require more moisture and a gentler approach to keep supple. My absolute hero products for fresh skin are Clinique All About Eyes and Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisutre cream. The former, I hold my hands up and admit I’ve never bought a full size pot, thanks to Clinique’s frequent inclusion of it in their Bonus Time offerings – and my obsession with their bundle of “freebies”.

This lightweight eye cream promises to diminish the appearance of eye puffs, darkness and fine lines. The gel formula also claims to actually help hold eye makeup in place. Can be used both morning and night, both under eyes and on lids. It’s £26.50 for a 15ml pot, but I would recommend trying to wait for an offer, or finding it in Bonus Time as Clinique so often have extras up for grabs. The product itself has an instantly cooling effect and soaks well into skin, helping to shift creepy knackered old marks under your eyes. Use an index finger and gently roll the product on from inner to outer eye – this will encourage blood flow away from the under eye, helping to drain and decrease any blue.

And my ultimate moisturiser? The aptly named Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture from Murad is an absolute God of a product. Without SPF this ultra rich but lightweight and fast to absorb cream can be smothered on at night as well as day, offering a fast all-round solution. Now, dont get me wrong, SPF is a must all year round but I actually find it really hard to find products that don’t contain it, and would rather have a hard-working cream and add it later with my primer and foundation.

I often find myself annoyed if when travelling I have to take two separate creams to avoid wearing SPF in bed! Instantly relieves dry and dehydrated skin while providing long-lasting moisture, It feels rich but doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on your skin and is gentle enough for even sensitive skin like mine. Now, it is a little pricier at £64 for 50ml but if your budget allows, you must try it. Plus, Murad have awesome customer care where they offer a money-back guarantee even if the bottle of empty.

To finish off, whether you’re going to be wearing make-up or not, Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Instant Perfector is one of ny favourite primers. Providing a smooth and creamy base for foundation, this paste-like formula works to reduce pore size and give a matte finish, lasting all day – so can easily be worn alone too. Available in two shades, and a blighting tone too it’s £20 for 10ml but I find a little goes a long way, smoothing under eyes, over my nose and chin.
