Happy New Year beauty fans! For me 2014 felt so fast. It was a great year for progressing personally at work, having so much fun with my friends, visiting different countries, and doing some serious partying. But 2014 was also a great year for beauty! It’s almost been two years now since Charlotte and I started writing beauty features for Cambridge Edition Magazine, and we’ve learnt so much. I feel good about leaving 2014 behind with a last favourites post for December before getting stuck right into 2015, and all the fabulous discoveries yet to make.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Eau de Toilette
£43.99 – Fragrance Direct
I’ve been a big fan of the Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume for years since I was gifted it by my lovely granny who couldn’t resist the namesake scent. Every so often I feel like changing something – just slightly – be it my hair colour, statement lipstick, or perfume – and just before Christmas felt like a good a time as any with all the gift sets on offer. Daisy Dream has the same recognisable scent as the original but is light, floral and fruity, and packaged in a beautiful pale blue glass bottle that looks gorgeous displayed on your dressing table. Made from fruity and floral aromas, top notes of blackberry, pear and grapefruit are promised, along with a heart of jasmine, lychee and blue wisteria settled on a base of white wood, coconut water and musk. This is definitely a summery fragrance, but for me I quite like a scented reminder that warm sunny days are coming whilst up against the chills of winter.
Original Mineral Seven Day Miracle Masque
£9 – Selfridges
Seven Day Miracle from Original Mineral is an intense moisture masque for damaged hair. I have a sample size of this unique blend of Australian native oils and I absolutely ADORE it! Oh my gosh it smells amazing! Macadamia Seed Oil and cold-pressed organic Australian Argan Oil promises intense moisturising powers for coloured and damaged hair, so I was super-keen to try. The sweet scent of vanilla bean takes this moisture masque to the next level, getting a huge thumbs up from me and it’s also free from harsh chemicals including Parabens, MIT and Triclosan – bonus! As well as leaving on my hair after shampooing for an intensive masque, I’ve actually been keeping this in my handbag and running a pea sized amount through the ends of my dry hair during the day – the formula is so creamy that I don’t even need to wash my hands afterwards, it just melts away leaving an ice-cream scent – heaven!
Laura Mercier Creme De Pistache Hand Creme
£13 – House of Fraser
I adore Laura Mercier products, and the bath and body range is to die for, scents include honey, vanilla, almond and coconut to indulge in as body creams and washes. My favourite however is the pistachio scent – Oh. My. Gawd. – lovely Charlotte gifted me this hand cream last year not long after she got puppy Toby and it reminds me of delicious gelato in Italy, as well as the warmth of our friendship (awww). The scent is quite strong, which I like, and the product sinks easily into the skin with a silky – non-greasy – texture. Hours after wear people have commented about the scent, which could be worn as an alternative to perfume. Next stop, the full range! hearts for eyes
Lush Liquid Eyeliner in Dynamic
£14.50 – Lush
Since Charlotte and I had a festive tour of Lush at the end of last year I’ve revisited some of my products and found a new love for the liquid eyeliner in Dynamic. A sheer warm peach liquid eyeliner that I prefer to use as an eye creme or highlighter, the consistency is creamy and easy to blend, and if used sparingly gives a beautifully subtle coral glow. Rose petal infusion, jojoba oil and almond oil soften and soothe the skin and care for the sensitive eye area too making it ideal for those with sensitive peepers like me. I’m told by Lush that it’s the cupuaçu butter and glycerine that make it so blendable while also helping to set the colour pigment.
Benefit High Beam Luminescent Complexion Enhancer
£19.59 – John Lewis
Another old favourite, and one I revived for December having received a cute sample in my Benefit Advent Calendar, High Beam is one of Benefits most popular products, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a super creamy, easy to blend highlighter which is perfect for adding a dewy glow to cheek and brow bones, and can even be used under makeup as a complexion booster. I like to use it to highlight my cheekbones after applying foundation, blending out to the sides of my faces, then dabbed under my brow bones, and a little under my eyes to help make me look more awake than I usually feel!!
Natural Collection Blushed Cheeks in Pink Cloud
£1.99 – Boots
As regulars to our blog will know, Charlotte and I are blusher obsessed – I easily own around 20 (oops!) and am forever on the hunt for that perfect flush! I’ve been getting really into contouring at the moment, and as such my shimmery blushers just won’t do, so I’ve come back to matte and found myself using my Natural Collection blusher in Pink Cloud, a cool blue-toned pink, as my everyday product. I can’t believe it’s only £1.99, what a bargain! It’s available in six shades, so I’m sure there’s something to suit every skin tone.
