I always find life starts to speed up at this time of year. Working in publishing there’s always plenty that needs to be done in time for Christmas – stockpiling copy for January issues and putting together special material for any clients’ Christmas activities, so for me it’s a great time to make sure I have some pamper products on hand for the end of a tiring day…
First off is a little lip palette by Sleek which has become a real grab-product for me – something that sits quite nicely in my handbag next to my powder compact, meaning I use it a lot! This quad is called ‘Tease’ and features four highly pigmented lipsticks, one matte pinky plum, a satin pink and two red glosses called ‘Show off’, ‘Spotlight’, ‘Paris’, and ‘Dita’. The palette has a mirror and comes complete with dinky little brush which is easy to get a decent defined shape with. I love all the shades and often blend them together, finishing with a gloss to the centre of my lips. Gorgeous. An absolute bargain at £8.99, Sleek.com or Superdrug.
I recently rediscovered the Boots brand Natural Collection, and am loving a couple of their staple products. This eyeshadow duo in ‘Mocha/Latte’ is a steal at just £1.99. Fragrance free and easy to blend, the darker chocolate shade is perfect for the outer corners of your eyes, or for layering over liquid eyeliner for a softer finish, with the cream shade perfect for highlighting. I’ve actually also been using the brown shade on my eyebrows with a thin brush and it’s the perfect colour match!
This TRESemme hair spray is amazing! pro-shine lasting hold, it doesn’t have a strong smell – just the classic TRESSemme scent – and gives a really reliable hold without being too crispy or sticky. It’s easy to brush out, and is totally buildable. I used it for Halloween and partied for seriously solid hours without one hair moving out of place. I’ve actually had this for ages, it’s an X-Factor limited edition, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same as the Gloss Magnifying Fixing Spray, £2.66, Boots.
I’m already a massive fan of MAC lip glass, and couldn’t resist this new shade ‘Social Season’ from the Heirloom collection, a cremeshene glass it’s a beautiful candy pink colour with tiny subtle sparkles, perfect for Christmas. £19.50, MAC.
A new product to me, Dr. lewinn’s Instant Beauty Radiance Booster is a moisturiser with aloe vera and rice bran oil to suit all skin types. It smells so delicious, like an elderflower Collins cocktail – or cucumber! With a creamy and light texture it promises to make you feel like your skin has had hours more rest and works really well under makeup instead of a primer. £26 from Debenhams.
Another of my new faves from Natural Collection, this lip pencil in ‘Ruby Rose’ works beautifully combined with the MAC cremesheen. A shade I really love, the plummy pink colour can be built up to a strong bright pop of colour, and works well as a liner to other lipsticks, or lined and then filled in completely, but you’ll want a little balm or gloss to stop your lips drying out. Another absolute bargain at just £1.99 from Boots, there’s no good reason not to try it!
My final October favourite is another contouring product (I’m getting obsessed!) this classic little Bourjois chocolate box palette has been re-released with a highlighter as the Delice de Poudre Duo. Although not quite as deliciously scented as the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil, it does actually have a sweet, powdery smell, with a bronzing half and a light shimmery highlighter. The Bronzer gives a subtle shadow and is easy to blend with a large brush, but it’s the highlighter that is the star of this dinky duo, with a light glow it gives a natural sheen without looking overly sparkly or fake. With just a quick dust over my cheek bones, nose and cuspids bow I’m ready to go! £7.99, ASOS. Although I believe I picked it up as a Boots 3-4-2 deal.
