MAC Retro Matte collection – new launch!

As big fans of a matte lip, we were so excited to hear of MAC’s latest launch for AW13. The new Retro Matte formula includes eight Pro Longwear Lip Pencils and eight Lipsticks, plus we’ve heard that all 16 shades are going to be here to stay, so no fear (for now at least!) of falling for a limited edition colour only to have have the pain of it becoming discontinued. We were lucky enough to get our hands on one of their most striking shades in the collection; All Fired Up is a confident fuchsia red that is surprisingly easy to wear for its initial bold appearance, where I feel the matte finish offers a more grown up look to this cracking candy colour.

I must admit, as a fan of lipstain’s and crayons, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel going back to a classic lipstick, but I am so impressed and would go as far as to say this could easily become my staple lipstick, destined to travel in my handbag where ever I go. The formula was easy to apply, giving a professional finish with no, and I mean zero, bleeding around the edges. It also had incredible staying power, and didn’t shift even through lunch (a cheese scone and latte if you must know!) so I didn’t have to reapply in the afternoon, amazing!

Here’s my little look book above of how I chose to wear the rest of my make up to compliment this bold colour. As I have a fringe, I find strong eye make up helps to keep everything in proportion, which also seemed to suit this colour too. I started at the bow of my lips working the stick up and out, smoothing down each side, finishing with a quick slick across my bottom lip to finish. My eyeliner is from The Body Shop, £9.00, the mascara used here is Soap and Glory’s Thick and Fast, £10.50 Boots, eyebrow pencil, my firm favourite and another MAC family member, in Lingering, £13.00. My nail varnish here is a cute deep shade called New Delhi from Mavala for only £4.50 from John Lewis/Boots. I finished the tips of each nail in a good 3x coats of H&M’s glitter polish in Cerise/Rooftop party for only £2.99, however, you must then seal it in with a decent topcoat such as Nails Inc Kensington Caviar 45 second Top Coat, £12.00 Boots/Nail ins online.

And what about the new lipsticks? Well they’re almost here, and should be in the shops this September as part of the AW13 collection. To keep an eye on the latest products, you can also sign-up to the MAC newsletter here.
