While the summer continues to be a bit of a let-down in the sunshine department, home tanning is a beacon of hope for gaining a sunkissed glow without the need to actually be in a hot climate, which is on the one hand rather disappointing, but also a lifesaver if, like me, you benefit from a little bronze.
I’ve been putting off tanning while holding out for the summer sun, but the time has now come to start seriously thinking about bronzing from a bottle. I’ve got a list of my own tanning must-haves, but that’s for another blog post! Before even thinking about slapping myself from head to toe in biscuity-goodness and doing a John Wayne walk for the drying duration, first comes exfoliation!
Introducing Clinique’s Sparkle Skin Exfoliating Cream. A lightly menthol scented soft cream which promises to polish rough, dry areas such as heels, elbows and knees. I headed to my local John Lewis store last week like an excited school girl approaching the school holidays… for what? For Bonus Time my friends! Luckily I was joined by a good friend who shares this obsession with Clinique’s far from regular ‘goody bag’ sesh.
This months grab bag included a couple of my favourites – All About Eyes, a gorgeous little pot of creamy goodness for poor puffy peepers; Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips which is a must-have for heavy eye-make up and lip tint removal; Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief, perfect for a refreshing spritz after a hard days work. And a couple I haven’t tried before; Deep Comfort Body Butter, Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector and my hero product this blog post – Clinique’s Sparkle Skin Exfoliating Cream.
This is one of the products I’d wanted to try for a while, so this sample pot was the perfect excuse. At £20 for 250ml I wanted to be sure it was worth getting my purse out for. The product suprised me with it’s smooth and creamy texture, as I’m used to most exfoliators being fairly abrasive. The cream is a lovely duck egg blue, with a scent that lovers of mint will adore. I’m not a huge menthol fan, but didn’t find it’s minty fragrance offensive by any means. It lathered nicely and gently buffed away old skin, really smooth and refreshing and easily washed off to reveal softer, new skin underneath. With its gentle approach, I could see this little scrub happily becoming part of my daily shower essentials.
In the past I’ve felt a little too tingly after using harsh exfoliators, making me pause the tanning process for another day to give my skin recovery time, but the Sparkle Skin Cream left me feeling comfortable and ready to proceed with gaining a glow… If only the new series of 90210 and a bag of popcorn hadn’t distracted me for the evening… guilty pleasures!
